Sum Total
A documentary series by Jasmine A. Golphin
Sum Total is a documentary series that explores the cumulative impact of the social, mental, and physical health disparities Black Americans face. This project looks to paint the bigger picture, to chart the sum total of living in a world built against you. Facial recognition software, clothing standards, food brands, food deserts, high school history classes, the entire judicial system, public parks, workplace professionalism - the list is exhaustive and that exhaustion has to land somewhere. Over the course of three episodes, Sum Total will feature interviews with Black Northeast Ohio health professionals, educators, artists and everyday residents who can not only speak to how these racial disparities intersect but also - perhaps more importantly - to what it feels like to live everyday in those intersections.
